FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS

A SPECIALIST ART PARTNER WITHIN THE FAMILY ADVISORY STRUCTURE

Significant art collections rarely sit neatly within a single area of professional responsibility.

Questions around acquisition, sale, ownership, valuation, stewardship, succession, philanthropy, privacy, institutional relationships, and long-term legacy can intersect with legal, tax, fiduciary, investment, insurance, and family governance considerations.

Aevum Office works alongside private-client lawyers, trustees, fiduciaries, wealth advisors, estate advisors, investment advisors, insurers, and family-office teams to provide the specialist art market, curatorial, operational, and strategic expertise required around the collection.

We do not replace the family’s existing advisors. We work as part of the wider advisory structure.

WHEN TO INVOLVE AEVUM OFFICE

Aevum Office can be brought into a client relationship whenever a significant collection requires specialist attention beyond the remit of the existing advisory team.

This may be when a family is:

  • acquiring, selling, inheriting, restructuring, or reassessing a collection;

  • establishing clearer governance or decision-making around art and cultural assets;

  • preparing for succession or engaging the next generation;

  • reviewing documentation, care, insurance, storage, valuation, or other collection risks;

  • considering the long-term purpose, visibility, or institutional position of a collection;

  • developing philanthropic, patronage, publishing, exhibition, or broader cultural ambitions; or

  • seeking an independent specialist to represent its interests across the art market.

Aevum Office can enter at a defined moment or remain involved as an ongoing advisory partner.

HOW AEVUM OFFICE WORKS WITH EXISTING ADVISORS

Our role is to provide the specialist art advisory layer around the collection while allowing each member of the wider advisory team to remain within their area of expertise.

We work alongside lawyers, tax advisors, trustees, fiduciaries, investment advisors, wealth managers, insurers, estate planners, and other specialist professionals.

Where valuation, legal, tax, insurance, conservation, logistics, or other technical input is required, we coordinate with appropriately qualified specialists and help ensure that their advice is understood in relation to the collection as a whole.

This gives both the family and its advisors a clearer view of what the collection contains, what it requires, where risk or opportunity may exist, and how individual decisions relate to the family’s wider objectives.

COLLECTION GOVERNANCE

For many families, the central issue is not simply what a collection is worth, but how decisions around it are made.

Aevum Office develops a collection mandate: a strategic framework defining how a collection should be understood, managed, developed, and positioned over time.

The mandate can address financial objectives, cultural value, family identity, liquidity, visibility, decision-making authority, governance, next-generation engagement, philanthropic ambitions, and the personal and aesthetic dimensions of collecting.

It can establish what belongs within the collection, what should be acquired, what may need to be sold, what requires further research or care, who should be involved in particular decisions, and how the collection should evolve across generations.

This provides a specialist framework around which legal, fiduciary, tax, investment, estate, and family governance considerations can be coordinated.

SUCCESSION, INHERITANCE, AND THE NEXT GENERATION

Art collections can become particularly complex when they pass from the person who built them to the family that inherits them.

Aevum Office works with families and their advisors to consider the future of a collection across generations: its purpose, governance, documentation, stewardship, privacy, visibility, institutional relationships, philanthropic potential, and the involvement of future family members.

Some collections are intended to remain together. Others require rebalancing, divestment, gifting, institutional placement, or a new collecting direction.

Our role is to help the family understand the collection as a whole and develop a considered strategy around what should be preserved, developed, transferred, sold, shared, or reimagined.

We also work directly with next-generation family members who are beginning to define their own relationship to art, collecting, patronage, cultural experience, and family assets.

ACQUISITIONS, SALES, AND MARKET DECISIONS

Aevum Office provides independent support across acquisitions, divestments, and other art-market transactions.

This can include sourcing, market intelligence, acquisition review, due diligence coordination, negotiation, valuation coordination, provenance and condition review, sale strategy, auction-house and gallery relationships, and post-transaction planning.

Individual transactions are considered in the context of the collection’s wider mandate rather than in isolation.

For advisors, this provides a specialist counterpart able to assess the art-market dimension of a decision while legal, tax, fiduciary, investment, and other implications remain with the relevant members of the advisory team.

STEWARDSHIP AND COLLECTION OVERSIGHT

A significant collection also requires ongoing operational oversight.

Aevum Office works alongside the family office and specialist partners across collection management, documentation, cataloguing, conservation coordination, storage, insurance, shipping, installation, condition reporting, loans, and wider operational planning.

This creates continuity around the collection and ensures that information, responsibilities, and specialist relationships do not become fragmented across multiple providers or generations.

CULTURAL STRATEGY AND LEGACY

For some families, the ambition extends beyond ownership.

Aevum Office develops projects that strengthen the cultural significance, intellectual content, visibility, and long-term position of a collection.

This can include exhibitions, publishing, research, commissions, museum loans, institutional partnerships, archives, philanthropic initiatives, cultural programming, and public or private storytelling around the collection.

We also facilitate private cultural programmes, institutional access, artist and curator relationships, studio visits, international art events, and tailored cultural experiences where these support the family’s wider collecting, educational, philanthropic, or next-generation objectives.

INTERNATIONAL REACH

Aevum Office works internationally, with experience across major wealth and cultural hubs including London, New York, Sydney, Hong Kong, Zürich, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and the wider Middle East and Asia-Pacific region.

Our work is relationship-led and context-specific. We build around the client’s existing structures, geography, collection, family priorities, and desired level of visibility.

Aevum Office’s networks span collectors, advisors, institutions, galleries, auction houses, artists, curators, and specialist partners across the global art market.

INDEPENDENT REPRESENTATION

Aevum Office operates independently from external commissions and incentives.

Our engagement is built around the family and its mandate. Where third-party fees, incentives, or conflicts are offered, these are disclosed and passed through to the client.

This allows Aevum Office to operate as the family’s representative within a market in which commercial relationships and incentives are not always transparent.

HOW AN ENGAGEMENT BEGINS

Every engagement begins with a complimentary consultation.

We establish the family’s existing structures, collection history, priorities, sensitivities, advisory relationships, and desired level of involvement.

From there, Aevum Office can undertake a collection assessment: reviewing the collection, its history, ownership structure, documentation, market position, risks, opportunities, and future potential before developing a collection mandate and recommended scope of engagement.

For professional advisors, the initial conversation can also be used simply to establish whether and where specialist art expertise is required.
